Curriculum Summary

Huron Valley Catholic School

Statement of Curriculum

Huron Valley Catholic School supports the Catholic Church’s teaching that the parents are the primary educators of their children. The parents delegate the day to day instruction to the school. The Principal and staff are responsible for developing and reviewing the curriculum. The Educational Policy Committee (consisting of board members, staff, and parents) reviews the curriculum and provides input and recommendations to the Principal.

All subjects are taught through the lens of the principles of Scripture and the teaching of the Church. The core curriculum consists of religious education, mathematics, language arts, reading, science, and social studies. In addition to the these subjects , physical education, art, music, media literacy, and foreign language study are included as part of the curriculum. The school believes that these subjects are important to the development of the whole person.

The Curriculum Assistant, under the direction of the Principal, reviews the school’s guide and compares it with the published state standards and outcomes. Efforts are made to align these standards as long as the principles of the first paragraph of this document are followed.

The curriculum is described in detail in The Curriculum Guide. For each subject listed above, this guide details a statement of philosophy, overall goals, and a scope and sequence. The Curriculum Guide is available in the school office for parental review.
